Project: Spanish-language website
Client: Temas De Hoy
Date: February 2008
After the UK and USA success of science book Quirkology, the title was released in Spain as 'Rarologia'. The Spanish publishers asked February Marketing to create a Spanish-language version of the popular website, which is linked from the main Quirkology.com splash page as well as under its own domain.
Project: Website and rebrand
Client: Basic Books, USA
Date: September 2007
Following the success of the online camapign for the UK edition of the book Quirkology by Richard Wiseman, February Marketing was asked to create a website for the USA edition. This was to reflect the new jacket and also be in a style more suited to the audience, including 'Americanising' the spelling (or 'Americanizing' if you will). The launch of the site was accompanied by a competition for users to guess the method used in a YouTube illusion featuring the author.
Project: Online marketing campaign
Client: Macmillan Publishing
Date: August 2007
This project required a fun, flirty website which would appeal to women of all ages. The site was to promote a book which dealt with the subject of relationships, and had to incorporate the author's existing blog, for which we designed a new skin to match the site. We were also asked to promote the URL online to interested communities.
Project: Website and rebrand
Client: Prof Richard Wiseman
Date: April 2007
The client required a 50-page website and rebrand to reflect the many facets of his public and academic profile. The brief was to create a brand which reflected the client's status as a well-known media figure, psychologist, best-selling author and speaker. The website needed to portray a friendly yet authoritative image, but would also act a repository for scientific papers and online experiments, so a robust but flexible architecture was required.
Project: Digital marketing campaign
Client: Macmillan Publishing
Date: April/May/June 2007
This project, for the book Quirkology, had two major aspects: the design and build of the website, and the seeding of a viral to drive traffic and general awareness of the site and product.
The viral was seeded in more than fifty relevant channels after several weeks of pre-planning, and immediately became an internet hit. It received almost a million views on YouTube in just two weeks, and was chosen by YouTube editorial staff to be the homepage #1 featured video. We believe this to be a first for a book advertisement and certainly unusual for a commercial viral.
The website was built as a platform for online experiments and fun content which is constantly updated, creating a universe for Quirkology fans. The brand was fortified with a series of banner advertisements and mini-brands for each experiment, and additional traffic created through high-profile press national television and newspaper coverage.
In September 2007 the website was redesigned to reflect the forthcoming paperback release of the book.
